Police officers in collaboration with schools and local community has held legal culture class projects on road safety and a healthy lifestyle for school children within the framework of the PH International program “Community Policing Initiative in Samtskhe-Javakheti”.

The aim of the class projects was to raise the awareness of IX, X, XI grade students on legal culture issues and to promote partnerships between police officers, school children, teachers, school and local community through joint initiatives.

Police officers together with students, teachers, and the local community in Samtskhe-Javakheti’s 15 partner schools implemented a variety of activities: sport competitions in volleyball, basketball, football, table tennis, tennis; An exhibition of achievements and successes of local athletes; Movie discussion on the topic of road safety, drawing a zebra crossing near the school, information campaign about driving safely. These activities helped students to raise their awareness about the importance of road safety and a healthy lifestyle through direct communication with the police officers and practical projects.

The projects involved 11 police officers from Akhaltsikhe Police Division, Akhalkalaki Police Division, Ninotsminda Police Division and Akhaltsikhe Patrol Service. 15 civic education teachers, more than 300 school children and more than 100 local community members participated in the projects from Akhaltsikhe, Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda municipalities of Samtskhe-Javakheti Region.

To implement these class projects, within the framework of small grants from the program “Community Policing Initiative in Samtskhe-Javakheti” program 15 schools in Samtskhe-Javakheti were given various items, in particular, sports equipment, inventory and paint for painting a zebra crossing, stationery and etc.

It is noteworthy that within the program, police officers together with civic education teachers, delivered legal culture lessons for schoolchildren on topics such as child rights, conflict resolution, early marriage, domestic violence, healthy lifestyle, and more.

PH International’s Georgia branch, with financial support from the US Department of Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs /INL, was implementing the program “Community Policing Initiative in Samtskhe-Javakheti” (CPI). The aim of the program was to raise legal awareness among juveniles and to promote cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the local community through the implementation of community policing principles.
