On October 1, 2014, a launch event of a new civics education program “Momavlis Taoba” was organized at Tbilisi Courtyard Marriott Hotel.

Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Ms. Lia Gigauri and USAID Caucasus Mission Director, Mr. Stephen M. Haykin welcomed attendees and talked about the importance of development of civics education at schools for the democratic development of the country.

The goals, objectives and planned activities of the program were introduced to the audience by Program Chief of Party, Ms. Marina Ushveridze – three years program will cover 480 schools nationwide, in all regions of Georgia. The civics supplemental textbooks will be delivered to the schools; trainings and master classes will be provided for the professional development of civics teachers. Program will support the establishment of civics clubs at schools.

At the end of the event the civics teacher, the school principal and the civics club students of Tbilisi public school #45 shared with the guests the experience of civics initiatives and projects implemented for the benefit of the school and the community within ACETT program, which is a forerunner of MT.

USAID-funded “Momavlis Taoba” Program is implemented by PH International in partnership with the Centre for Training and Consultancy (CTC) and 11 regional partner NGOs. The program is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.
