American Spaces Digital Literacy and Training Program (2023-2028)
The American Spaces Digital Literacy and Training program supports curriculum development, training, and programming to develop media, information, and digital literacy skills among overseas audiences in up to 150 American Spaces in priority countries across Europe and Central Asia, selected based on U.S. foreign policy priorities and in coordination with regional bureaus. The program aims to reach thousands of citizens in parts of Europe and Central Asia where disinformation, propaganda, and malign influence from foreign entities is prevalent. Program activities in American Spaces build trust with networks of informed media professionals and citizens, improve media, information, and digital literacy among foreign audiences, and increase understanding of a free and independent media as a pillar of democracy.
The program also includes peer networking and informational workshops focused on countering disinformation for a total of up to 50 American Spaces partner staff from across Europe and Central Asia, as well as four training and cultural visits (at minimum) to the United States for approximately 20-25 American Spaces partner staff per exchange from all world regions, in addition to social media messaging development.
This program is funded by the Office of American Spaces of the US State Department.
